 "A CHOICE"

 TRANSPARENCY

WE ASKED MORE THAN

97%
DISAGREE THAT ONLINE CLASSES WILL BE EQUIVALENT TO IN PERSON CLASSES
92%
BELIEVE SCAD SHOULD PROVIDE MONETARY REFUNDS FOR SPRING QUARTER 2020 FEES
99%
USED ON CAMPUS RESOURCES IN THE PAST YEAR

Students at SCAD are deeply concerned about some of the changes made for the fully-online spring quarter. Our concerns are rooted in the scenarios many of us have already experienced, situations described byProfessor Kaitlin Pomerantz in her recent article "Teaching Art Online Under COVID-19" — “Students scrambling out of dorms and scattering geographically, students grappling with loans, who may not even have materials to complete this online coursework, students left wondering about graduations, paychecks, housing, withdrawals, reimbursements. Students who are resourceful and hopeful — in some cases already setting up home studios and getting to work — but who are still footing the bills for their studios, specialized equipment, visiting critics, and thesis shows. Students who are fleeing illness or may already be experiencing it."

While we appreciate SCAD's effort in making classes available online for the upcoming spring quarter, we agree it is necessary to demand a monetary refund for tuition fees connected to on-ground services and resources. In a fully-online quarter, students will not have access to many of these resources, yet we are being charged for them anyway.

Such services and resources include the loss of access to on-ground equipment and facilities, some campus services, networking platforms, and many more assets that virtual classrooms can neither substitute nor replicate. On top of that, some students are struggling with extreme circumstances: International students, domestic students, low-income students, unemployed students, students with disabilities and many more are left with questions and concerns that require immediate clarification.

  • Substantiate the reasoning behind that demand with credible sources

  • Feature the requisite of the demand by showcasing individual circumstances
